Team India's ace all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, has slipped from the 19th position among Gujarat's top advance income-tax payers, to the 39th rank in 2008-09.
Income-tax department data indicate that Irfan had paid Rs60 lakh as advance income-tax in 2008-09 and is now ranked 39th. In 2007-08, he had paid Rs70 lakh and was ranked 19th among the state's top taxpayers. The cricketer paid almost 14% less as tax this year.

Experts say that a person paying Rs60 lakh as advance tax must have earned more than Rs2.5 crore in the year concerned. And this after several tax exemptions that reduce the amount that ultimately falls within the tax net.
